Catchment Action

Landholders in the Swan Brook Catchment have participated several activities with the aim of initiating a catchment-scale landscape rehydration project. Partner organisations in this effort include GWYMAC Inc, Swan Vale Landcare and Northern Tablelands Local Land Services (NT LLS).

February 2021: A landscape rehydration workshop was delivered by the Mulloon Institute to interested landholders in Swan Vale in February 2021.

November 2021: With funding obtained from the Levins Family Foundation and matched by NT LLS, the Mulloon Institute published an extensive scoping report (download HERE).

October 2023: 30 landholders participated in a field day and 2-day bootcamp as part of the Institute’s “Communities of Practice Project” (funded by the Federal Government’s Future Drought Fund).

2024: 8 properties embarked on a mentoring program, to undertake a small-scale landscape rehydration project with one-on-one support with a landscape planner.

Aims and objectives of Swan Brook Scoping Report

The aim of the scoping study was to identify a site-appropriate approach to achieving landscape-scale rehydration in the Swan Brook catchment. This was done by:

• Listening to the views of Swan Brook catchment landholders and other stakeholders on the current health of the catchment and what they think could be done to improve it.

• Identifying the existing functional strengths and limitations of the Swan Brook catchment.

• Identifying and presenting a range of possible interventions to achieve landscape rehydration that would form the basis of any future landscape rehydration work.
